Project 2: Intercontinental Communication Strategy for Smart Homes

Project Brief: In this project, we are designing strategies to enable and facilitate low-overhead, cost-efficient, intercontinental communication among smart homes. Such a strategy will play a key role for introducing real-time artificial intelligence in smart homes and will allow these smart homes to make collaborative clever decisions in real time.

Status: We have designed a interference-free camera network commissioning strategy and deployed that in our prototype smart homes. This strategy helps the smart homes to send HD (720p) video streams smoothly to each other by consuming no more than 55KBps. Therefore, even though the smart homes in Bangladesh are connected to a slow 2MBps WiMAX network, real time monitoring of those smart homes from Singapore, which is 4,145KM away, is possible. Currently, we are working on extending the monitoring capability to Australia.
